| The OS/2 and eComStation Developers Workshop 2005 was held on July 9th and 10th in Dresden, Germany.
A bit more than one week after the workshop we have now updated the workshop homepage with some information that can be useful for developers that could not attend. 1. You can download all presentations. With the exception of the netlabs.org presentation and the Mozilla presentation you can download all presentations in a PDF format from the workshop homepage: http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Developers_Workshop_2005#Download_Presentations The Mozilla presentation needed to be canceled last minute because of illness of the presenter. 2. Posters available. We had two posters presented at the Workshop. One about WDSibyl, a visual pascal development environment and one about the EDM/2 Tools section. Both are now available for download from the workshop homepage: http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Developers_Workshop_2005#Posters 3. Photos! We have published a ZIP file that contains a selection of photos from the workshop. You can find a link to the ZIP file at the very end of the Gallery section on the homepage: http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Developers_Workshop_2005#Gallery 4. Feedback from the attendees. We wanted to find out whether the event was a success and worth repeating next year. To do that, we handed out feedback forms at the end of the Workshop. We are now thinking about repeating the event next year. Ist leider keine frohe Nachricht, was mir lieber gewesen wäre... Unter http://www-306.ibm.com/software/os/warp/ steht als offizielles Datum der 23. Dezember 2005 als Ende der OS/2-Unterstützung. Für extra Schotter durch Passwort Advantage-, frühere Software Choice-Verträge gibt\'s weiterhin Unterstützung. Hier der Wortlaut des Textes: For several years IBM has published an OS/2 Strategy. It stated IBM\'s intention to reduce OS/2 support and made the recommendation that customers implement a phased transition from client-and-server environments to the WebSphere software platform Consistent with that direction, IBM has announced withdrawal from marketing and a change in support for OS/2 Warp V4 and OS/2 Warp Server for e-business Effective December 23, 2005, the products are withdrawn from marketing and the product CDs will no longer be available End of Standard Support for both products is December 31, 2006 Support beyond December 31, 2006, will be available for a fee via Service Extensions or Total Content Ownership offerings Migration recommendations and assistance are available Important OS/2 Withdrawal and Change in Support information is also available. | Hallo Leute,
die Applikationsentwicklung unter OS/2 nimmt immer mehr ab. Die noch übrig gebliebenen Anbieter von Desktop-Anwendungssoftware kann man an zwei Händen abzählen. Ein Anbieter war bis vor kurzem noch die Firma ROM-Logicware, die Weiterenwicklung der Officesoftware Papyrus hängt nun aber seit über einem halben Jahr in der Schwebe. Ich denke es ist höchste Zeit, etwas zu tun. Hier gibt es doch sicherlich genug Leute, die Interesse an Papyrus haben, selbständig oder freiberuflich tätig sind, und daher finanziell in der Lage sind (auch unter Berücksichtigung der entsprechenden steuerlichen Vorteile), einen zusätzlichen Betrag zur der üblichen Lizenzgebühr zu stiften. Ich möchte da mit meiner Firma mal den ersten Schritt machen, und einen Betrag in Höhe von 500EUR in den Topf werfen. Bedingung wäre für mich, das ROM Logicware einen Beta-Test durchführt, an dem wir beteiligt werden, und auch betriebsystemspezifische Bugs (z.B. das MET-Problem, oder Probleme beim PostScriptdruck) behebt. Ulli Ramps von ROM Logicware hat Ende letzten Jahres in der Papyrus Newsgroup geschrieben, daß wenigstens 100 Lizenzen erforderlich sind, um die Kosten für die Entwicklung des Upgrades nach Papyrus ELF zu decken. Grob überschlagen kann man also von einem notwendigen Betrag von 8.000 - 10.000 EUR ausgehen. Wir sollten versuchen, einen Großteil dieses Betrages über Sponsoring zu stellen, so daß die Entwicklung möglichst unabhängig davon läuft, wieviele Privatanwender das Programm dann noch kaufen. Wer sich daran beteiligen möchte, sollte sich bitte bei mir melden, und den möglichen Betrag nennen. Bitte schreibt mir auch, wieviele Papyrus Lizenzen Ihr dann später außerdem noch kaufen möchtet. Interessant wäre dabei auch, ob Ihr den Kauf von Papyrus Lizenzen für Windows oder Mac an die Verfügbarkeit der OS/2 Version ELF koppelt, und wenn ja wieviele. Am besten Ihr verwendet das Formular http://www.subsys.de/misc/Pap11OS2.txt und sendet mir dieses ausgefüllt per Mail oder Fax.
