DFSee 10.7 released (von http://news.warpevents.eu/)

DFSee version 10.7 has been released today, a minor release.

The Linux version has much better support for huge files and disks,
there are quite a few enhancements related to HEX editing and
several other smaller improvements and bug-fixes.

For FAT, HPFS, JFS and NTFS there is now a quick menu-selection to get
either the info (fnode, inode, DIR-entry etc) or the contents for a
file or directory into the HEX editor for inspection or changing.
See the various ’Mode=xxx -> File Find/Recover/HEXedit’ menu items.

DFSee is a very powerful disk-utility with disk partitioning,
filesystem and disk analysis, some file recovery and UNDELETE
and smart imaging or cloning of partitions or complete disks.

Firefox 4.0 and SeaMonkey-2.1 Beta 3 for OS/2 released (von http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Howdy,

Firefox-4.0 final is available at:
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/4.0/contrib/firefox-4.0.en-US.os2.zip

The latest (and presumably last) Beta of SeaMonkey:
http://class='extlink'http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/2.1b3-real/contrib/seamonkey-2.1b3.en-US.os2.zip

Be sure to download and carefully _read_ the new Readmeshttp://class='extlink':

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/4.0/contrib/firefox-4.0.en-US.os2.README

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/2.1b3-real/contrib/seamonkey-2.1b3.en-US.os2.README

Two points from the Readme are very important to mention
1)
======================================================================
=========
-- Compatibility Warning
------------------------------------------------------
======================================================================
=========

After using Firefox v4.x (SeaMonkey-2.1b3), your History and Cookies
databases (places.sqlite
and cookies.sqlite) will NOT be compatible with Firefox v3.x
(SeaMonkey-2.0.x). However, a
REXX script is available to restore compatibility.

* To preserve compatibility:
- download ’dbrestore.zip’ from
http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/dbrestore.zip
or
http://class='extlink'http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/dbrestore.zip
- unzip it into your profile directory
- make backups of places.sqlite and cookies.sqlite

* To restore compatibilty BEFORE running Firefox v3.x:
- run the script from your profile directory.

* To restore compatibilty AFTER running Firefox v3.x
(i.e. you forgot to run the script before):
- look for ’places.sqlite.corrupt’ and ’cookies.sqlite.corrupt’ in
your
profile directory, If they appear to be the right size, remove
the
’.corrupt’ extension after deleting the newly-created versions.
- run the script
- if your history and cookies aren’t restored, use your backup
copies.

2)
* Exceptq - Crash Reporting
If the app crashes, Exceptq will beep and then create an exception
report containing details of the crash. You can send these
reports to the developers at <http://class='extlink'crash_at_e-vertise.com>.

The Exceptq app and dlls can be downloaded here:
hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-search.php

Please, to be on the safe side, backup your profiles _before_ using
the new versions.

Get them as long as they’re still fresh ;-)

Qt Creator for OS/2 updated to version 1.3.1 (von http://news.warpevents.eu/)

I have updated the Qt Creator package. Main reason is a workaround for the nasty CPU hogging, that happened when the UI designer window is closed. Some other minor fixes - mostly dealing with case-sensitive file name handling - are included as well.

"Qt Creator is a cross-platform integrated development environment (IDE) tailored to the needs of Qt developers. It provides:

  • C++ and JavaScript code editor
  • Integrated UI designer
  • Project and build management tools
  • gdb and CDB debuggers
  • Support for version control
  • Simulator for mobile UIs
  • Support for desktop and mobile targets"

eCo Market: "I like it" (von http://news.warpevents.eu/)

It’s not easy to compose good email for the developer of favorite application,  you can spend much time to formulate and edit the letter. Not all users are able to do this, that’s why the developers don’t get enough feedback.

We integrated new features into eCo Market: "I like it" command. Every user can download updated application andsend appreciation message to the developer via eCo Market.

Sometimes the developers need such short messages (SMS), not long bug-reports.

Changelog />0.6.21606 (2011-03-28)
----------------------

Dmitriy Kuminov:
- general: Workaround the OS/2 loader bug in LIBPATHSTRICT=T mode by always
loading DLLs using the base name with no extension (e.g. "MDM" instead of
"MDM.DLL"). This fixes various problems like no sound in strict mode.
- general: A big bunch of fixes (headers and so on) for SDK mode.
- odincrt: Fixed a tiny typo in DosQueryModuleHandleStrict() that could
sometimes cause 100% CPU load at application startup eventually leading to
SYS1808 due to stack overflow.
- kernel32: VirtualQuery: Succeed with MEM_FREE for one page when querying
an unallocated address in the private arena (for which DosQueryMem fails
with ERROR_INVALID_ADDRESS). This will fix applications relying on proper
error reporting.
- kernel32: Report ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND from LoadLibrary() when it fails to
load a DLL due to missing import modules, to mimic Win32 behavior.
- tools/wrc: Restored generating GAS output by default. MASM output is now
generated by specifying the -M option.
- shell32: Shell_NotifyIcon(): Create a copy of the supplied icon because
the caller may DestroyIcon() on it at any time (which would cause systray
to display an empty rectangle). This matches Windows behavior.
- shell32: Implemented support for xsystray (Extended System Tray widget for

OpenJDK6 1.6.0-b22 RC2 (von http://news.warpevents.eu/)

The latest version of OpenJDK 6 is 1.6.0-b22 RC2 released on 28.03.2011. This is a second release candidate version that fixes a number of bugs in the previous release candidate as well as updates OpenJDK to beta 22.

You also need the newest Odin with this OpenJDK6.

From the OpenJDK6 changelog:

- Updated OpenJDK sources to b22

- Fixed and improved system tray support

- Fixed: Sound did not work in LIBPATHSTRICT=T mode (Odin bug).

- Fixed: SIGABRT that would unexcpectedly terminate some Java applications, e.g. IzPack based installers (GCC compiler bug).

- Fixed: Crash during Drag’n’Drop operations in some Java applications, e.g. JAlbum (Odin bug).

- Fixed DLL loading code in the JVM that would print a useless message when one of the required DLLs is not found.

- A bunch of smaller fixes in Odin libraries that should improve OpenJDK behavior.

From the Odin changelog:

- general: Workaround the OS/2 loader bug in LIBPATHSTRICT=T mode

- general: A big bunch of fixes (headers and so on) for SDK mode.

- odincrt: Fixed a tiny typo in DosQueryModuleHandleStrict() that could sometimes cause 100% CPU load at application startup

- kernel32: VirtualQuery: Succeed with MEM_FREE for one page when querying an unallocated address in the private arena

- kernel32: Report ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND from LoadLibrary() when it fails to load a DLL due to missing import modules, to mimic Win32 behavior.

- tools/wrc: Restored generating GAS output by default. MASM output is now generated by specifying the -M option.

- shell32: Shell_NotifyIcon(): Create a copy of the supplied icon because the caller may DestroyIcon() on it at any time (which would cause systray to display an empty rectangle). This matches Windows behavior.

- shell32: Implemented support for xsystray (Extended System Tray widget for XCenter) which provides more functionality (in particular, "TaskbarCreated" message broadcasting).
